  • Some waxes on the market are quite hard and you have to apply too much pressure at the buffing stage to melt it, which can cause heat checks and also dragging of the surface of the wax as it dries quicker than the wax against the wood causing scratches.
Placing a quality and natural wax on your work gives the timber a tactile warm smooth feel but is only as good as the time spent finishing timber to a high standard. I always decant off a portion of the Bee Kind wax into another container to prevent the mother pot getting contaminated with shavings from turning. These can leave scratch marks." - Terry Scott, Professional Woodturner, New Zealand.
  • With our New Zealand native wood like Rimu - after turning I wet sand to 600 grit with medicinal paraffin clear pure oil that helps bring out the timbers grain, along with keeping the pepper like dust of Rimu to a minimum. Next, I use ooo steel wool in a circular pattern with the wax on the steel wool to load the timber.
With the late running at 1000rpm, I then buff with a cotton cloth. This burnishes the natural wax into the grain of the timber.
If the item is suitable to get close to a cotton buff I will use that. - Terry Scott, Professional Woodturner, New Zealand.
  • Arts and Crafts Umbrella Stand CIRCA 1880 Wood: English Oak. This stand was initially stripped then sanded with a fine grade paper to give a smooth finish. One coat of matt, clear wood protector was applied and allowed to dry for 6 hours before a final sand to remove any rough areas. The hard work preparing the wood was well worth it when you see the finished item with a coat of Bee Kind furniture polish on it. This item of furniture has been brought to life showing the beautiful depth of colour and grain in the oak as well as nourishing the wood to keep it supple and prevent cracking. Bee Kind Finishers Formula

Enhance the quality finish on your wood-turnings, antiques, and craft-works. A wonderful, durable combination of NZ Beeswax and high-grade carnauba wax that brings out the natural grain and beauty of wood. The advantages of using this wax are that it is entirely food safe and can be used safely over other finishes.

Our pure unrefined beeswax and Manuka honey are sourced from Haines Apiaries, Northland, New Zealand. Manuka & Tea Tree Oil is highly effective against bacteria, fungi, yeast, and mold, naturally ensuring eating areas are free from microscopic bacteria and fungal colonies which may occur in wood. This is a perfect choice for restoring antique dining tables, restoring wood, or for use on antique kitchen surfaces in older homes without using any nasty chemicals. Bee kind can also be used for wood turners, burnishing, and craft-work projects, including native wood food bowls and eco kitchen wooden platforms.

Finisher’s Formula is different from commercial furniture polishes because most sprays have a petroleum distillate base and have the tendency to evaporate quickly. Furniture sprays contain chemical silicones & petroleums, which will eventually destroy the antique finish on your wood or produce spots over a period of time.

Application: Apply a thin coat of wax to the timber with a cotton cloth, let sit for ten minutes so the oils can penetrate the surface then either with a rotating cotton buff/mop or a simple soft cotton cloth, buff to a warm luster. Will last for a long time, with a lingering scent of beeswax and essential certified plant oils of orange & lemon, Manuka & Tea Tree
For Woodturning on the lathe:  Apply on the lathe at a suggested speed of 800rpm. With a lint free cloth apply firm pressure until an even shine appears.
